Panchayat Dhok Waziran, Block Nagrota, Jammu

The Panchayat Dhok Waziran is situated at a distance of 9 kms from Jammu City (Panjtirthi). It is around 3 kms distance away from the National Highway. The Panchayat is divided into a total of 7 wards and consists of 3 revenue villages-Chak Rakwala, Rathore Dhok Upper and Rathore Dhok Lower. There are a total of 447 households and Adult Franchise population is 3794.

The Panchayat houses many important establishments, like the prestigious Sainik School Nagrota. Office of Directorate of National Health Mission, Directorate NCC pre-Republic Day (RD) Camp and Group Centre CRPF, Khel Gaon a national level sports complex.. is also located in the Panchayat.

The Panchayat is bounded as North facing the holy Trikuta Hills with national highway, South River Tawi, East Baleen Khad and West Side is Charwa Khad. Inhabitants of Panchayat mainly depend on farming and daily labour activities.

The Panchayat has a record number of distinctive achievements.

The Panchayat Ghar has the privilege of having a library which caters to the educational needs of students right from class 4th std to Graduation level. There is also a basic computer training centre and an exclusive gym for the ladies for their workouts to stay healthy and deal with age related issues apart from staying fit. The Panchayat is tirelessly working on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) SDG 5 (Gender equality in particular ) on priority basis. Further, there is a Women security group namely Mahila Shakti Samooh which consists of ladies with pink dupattas reflecting authority in them delegated by the Panchayat to deal with the issues of domestic violence, drug abuse child nutrition and women health with AWW .The Panchayat also has an Old Age Home (Ashray) which provides shelter to the aged infirm and destitute persons in panchayat. Anyone with a problem can stay there two beds with food is provided free of cost. A distinctive collection procedure is adopted by the Panchayat on the principles and analogy of Katumb Shree wherein on a meeting day, every visitor contributes with a handful of foodgrains, flour, rice, pulses, biscuits and other eatable items which are distributed among the most needy families in the Panchayat. The Panchayat has a Self Help Group deals in manufacturing of Papads and Aggarbattis. It also has a big playfiled for the children. Panchayat has a weekly donation and distribution termed as "Aabhar" where old or new clothes are placed on a counter outside the panchayat donated by public /residents and anybody who is in need of any of the donated items has the liberty to take with him/her. The Panchayat also has a separate toilet for the ladies and a Quick Response Redressal System as well. Notably, the Panchayat has started its own door to door garbage collection. It is extensively working on solid liquid waste management system. The panchayat celebrates the birth of a female child and any VIP or chief guest is requested to name the female child, gifts, immunisation and other items are gifted to the female child apart from govt sponsored schemes . The Panchayat is also progressively earning through its own source revenue. The panchayat is in the process of door to numbering of all houses for convenience of various schemes implementation in the village. Eradication of poverty is the main focus of the panchayat by improvement in agriculture and horticulture the main source of income of the village the economic standard of the families is also improving , means of improving livelihood of the local is being explored and new methods are being explored like hydroponics, mushroom farming, dairy and other schemes are being implemented in the panchayat. To name a few :

  • Seizure of mobile Tower and recovery of Rs.100000/- ( One Lac Only).
  • Check on open defecation, and offenders fines.
  • Sanitation & SBM promoted through Folk lores as Hiran ( DEER ) calling at their doorstep asking if they have toilet facility at their home .
  • Seizure of Army vehicle dumping garbage with Police and Executive Magistrate restricted dumping of garbage in Panchayat.
  • Record of all certificates & communication maintained in the Panchayat.
  • Free computer elementary education which helped in placement & employment of three students.
  • Seven thousand fruit bearing plants distributed / planted, and record of surviving plants and beneficiaries maintained. People switched from traditional crops to income generating orchards thus raising economic status of the people.
  • Construction of lanes drains and drinking water facility provided for socially neglected people, ( Christian & Walmiki colony ) 138 houses.
  • Banned pigs and plastic bags in the panchayat.
  • SDRF pattern teams constituted and people mobilized for disaster management .
  • NCPCR ( National Commission for preservation of child rights ) Survey done in whole Block submitted recommendations to commission.
  • Mahila Shakti Sammoh constituted to check domestic violence and nutrition.
  • Preservation of old historic bawli water body from own resources.
  • Started door to door collection of garbage.
  • Shelter home “Ashray” for aged and infirm at Panchayat building .
  • Free food daily at Panchayat Ghar for needy .
  • Handful of ration collection at Panchayat Ghar with distribution to the most needy family of the Panchayat. (Katumb Shree pattern )
  • Fine on Deep Borewell for drilling borewell near agriculture fields, if completed would have lowered water level, stopped and fine of Rs.30000/- ( Thirty Thousand recovered)
